Old North Church

Old North Church is Boston’s oldest church building erected in the year 1723. Officially it is addressed by the name of Christ Church in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. It is located at 193 Salem Street and is an active Episcopal church. It is an Evangelical, Bible-teaching Church which is affiliated with the Baptist General Conference and Mideast Baptist Conference. The mission of the church is solemn and noble; it is to glorify God and become devoted followers of the son of God, Jesus Christ. The church remains open from

9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Sunday Service times are scheduled at 9:30 am (traditional) and 11:00 am (contemporary). Services were regular from the day of establishment with a brief interruption due to American Revolution.

The Georgian styled building of the Old North Church was designed by architect William Price who was inspired from the works of Christopher Wren, a British architect. The Old North Church in the North end of Boston houses the oldest bells in North America. They are eight in number and were cast by Abell Rudhall in Gloucester, England in the year 1744; in 1745 they were hung in the church. It was in the year 1775 that Robert Newman, sexton of the church hung two lanterns in the steeple as a warning message to the Charlestown patriots that the British troops were arriving “by sea”. Paul Revere made the famous historic midnight ride to Lexington and Concord to convey this message to Samuel Adams and John Hancock. This event triggered off the American Revolution. This revolutionary war and the integral role of the Old North Church have been immortalized in the lines of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem: "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere". This church house the first ever bust of George Washington and the first memorial dedicated to the president. The adjoining garden has many more plaques. The interior of the church has high box pews and brass chandeliers and clocks.

Old North Church has been marked as a national historical landmark and is one of the major tourist attractions in Boston.
